![]() When it first went on sale it shipped with Windows 8.1, and much as that version had some charm, Windows 10 solves the schizophrenic touch/not-touch feel of Windows 8 and 8.1. It's worth pointing out that my Surface 3 review unit is running Windows 10. I popped this up to 175% (I've old eyes, most people should cope with 125% or 150% zoom) and everything opens up just a little bit more, improving the experience no end. Here you can change the size of the text, apps, and other various items in the UI. Never fear, there is an answer, and it lies in the Display Settings. The touchpad that's available on the Type Cover is an option, but it lacks vertical space to be comfortable. Yes the Surface Pen is an option but it kills the ergonomics at a desk, and it's relatively slow in use as a pure pointing device. ![]() These spaces are too small for my finger to accurately pick them up. The screen runs at a resolution of 1920x1080, which is fine if I am at my desk, sitting down, and using a mouse, but it reduces many of the target areas in the UI to very small spaces. The Surface 3 will happily cope with running Chrome as my web browser, Office 2016 (the apps are available through an Office 365 subscription) for working, and Hearthstone for burning through some of my leisure time. It might not have the ultimate performance (don't expect to run Photoshop or World of Warcraft without some serious lag) but many business, enterprise, and personal apps will happily work with the specifications of the Surface 3.įrom my point of view, the loss of high-end gaming is not a big loss. It has an Intel Atom chipset, and as such can run pretty much the same Windows applications as the Surface Pro machines, the Surface Book, and countless other Windows laptops and desktops. ![]()
